Valentine's Day DIY

Now that the christmas tree is all gone, the house seems a little empty. I was in the mood to decorate the house last night and so I thought I'd add some warmth with a little arts and crafts.

I made a million little paper hearts and used some clever accessorizing to make a new dining table centrepiece and a door decoration.

The vases/candle holders are all from Ikea. I found the wind swept branch on the beach and made the little heart pennant with some kitchen twine, paper hearts and glue.

I then wanted to make a door decoration that we could actually see from inside. I find wreaths look funny through the little retro windows of my door, so I decided to make hanging garlands.

The large orange heart is actually a sheet metal heart I bought from a street artist in South Africa.
I used some balsa wood to cut out free hand hearts, and some red bristol board for the many hearts of different sizes.

At this point I was really wishing I just had a heart shaped hole punch.

I then used some black yarn and a glue gun to stick everything together.

Threw some of the hearts around like confetti onto the windowsill... and called it a day.

I heart Valentine's day!
